Composition of Amlopin M

Amlopin M contains Amlodipine (5mg) + Metoprolol Succinate (23.75mg). It belongs to the Calcium channel blocker + Beta-blocker class of medicines.

How Amlopin M works

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow. Metoprolol is a cardioselective beta-blocker that slows heart rate and reduces the force of contraction, decreasing cardiac workload and blood pressure.

How to take Amlopin M

Take by mouth as advised by the physician, usually once daily. Swallow the tablet whole (do not crush/chew as it may be extended-release). Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Amlopin-M Tablet PR, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a severe fall in blood pressure and a dangerously slow or irregular heartbeat. It can cause a dangerously slow heartbeat, a severe fall in blood pressure, wheezing and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Amlopin M

Most side effects of Amlopin M are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• headache
• dizziness
• ankle swelling (edema)
• flushing
• fatigue
• slow heart rate (bradycardia)
• low blood pressure
• cold extremities
• nausea
• constipation

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not stop metoprolol suddenly (may worsen angina or cause rebound hypertension). Use with caution in asthma/COPD, diabetes (may mask hypoglycemia symptoms), heart block, bradycardia, heart failure, liver disease, and in the elderly. Monitor blood pressure and pulse regularly; rise slowly from sitting/lying to reduce dizziness. Seek urgent care for severe dizziness/fainting, very slow pulse, breathing difficulty, or swelling of face/lips.

Do not take Amlopin M if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with very low blood pressure or with severe narrowing of the aortic valve. Not for people with a very slow heart rate, certain heart block disorders, or uncontrolled heart failure. Generally avoided in severe asthma.

Interactions with other medicines

Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension),verapamil/diltiazem (risk of bradycardia/heart block),digoxin (bradycardia),antiarrhythmics like amiodarone (conduction issues),CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers affecting amlodipine (e.g., clarithromycin, azoles, rifampicin),NSAIDs (may reduce BP control),clonidine (withdrawal interaction),insulin/oral antidiabetics (mask hypoglycemia),alcohol (increases dizziness)

How to store Amlopin M

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Amlopin M

It may cause dizziness. Get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor as it can cause sudden increase in your blood pressure. Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy.
