How Asthalin Respules works

Salbutamol is a short-acting selective beta-2 agonist (SABA). It relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, leading to bronchodilation and quick relief from wheeze, chest tightness and shortness of breath.

How to take Asthalin Respules

For inhalation use only via nebulizer. Use the respule contents as prescribed by the doctor; typically the entire 2.5 ml is placed in the nebulizer chamber and inhaled until the mist stops. Can be used with or without food; do not swallow or inject. Use immediately after opening and discard any leftover solution.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a racing heart, marked tremor, headache and a fall in blood potassium. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Asthalin Respules

Most side effects of Asthalin are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• muscle cramps

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Asthalin Respules

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in heart disease (arrhythmias, ischemic heart disease), hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes and seizure disorders. Overuse can worsen asthma control; seek medical help if relief is inadequate or symptoms worsen. May cause low potassium (hypokalemia), especially with high doses or with diuretics/steroids; monitor if at risk. If paradoxical bronchospasm occurs, stop and seek urgent care.

Do not take Asthalin if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to the propellant used in the inhaler.

Interactions with other medicines

Beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol) may reduce effect and can precipitate bronchospasm; diuretics and corticosteroids may increase risk of hypokalemia; theophylline/xanthines may increase side effects; MAO inhibitors/TCAs may potentiate cardiovascular effects; digoxin levels may decrease

How to store Asthalin Respules

Store below 25°C, protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep respules in the pouch until use and use immediately after opening.
