Salbutamol (2mg/5ml)
Asthalin Syrup is used for relief of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma and COPD (including chronic bronchitis and emphysema); wheezing, shortness of breath and chest tightness due to reversible airway obstruction.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated September 2026
Asthalin Syrup contains Salbutamol (2mg/5ml). It belongs to the Short-acting beta2-agonist (SABA) class of medicines.
Salbutamol is a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (SABA). It relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, leading to bronchodilation and improved airflow, providing quick relief from wheeze and breathlessness.
Oral syrup; use only as prescribed by a doctor. Measure with a calibrated spoon/cup. Can be taken with or without food; if it upsets the stomach, take after food. Do not exceed the prescribed dose or frequency.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of ASTHAlin Syrup, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.
Taking more Asthalin than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Asthalin are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Overuse may worsen asthma control and increase risk of serious side effects; seek medical help if relief is inadequate or symptoms worsen. May cause low potassium (hypokalaemia), especially with high doses or when used with diuretics/steroids. Use cautiously in pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult doctor.
Non-selective beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol) may reduce effect and cause bronchospasm; other sympathomimetics may increase side effects; diuretics, corticosteroids and xanthines (theophylline) may increase risk of hypokalaemia; MAO inhibitors/TCAs may potentiate cardiovascular effects; digoxin levels may decrease with hypokalaemia risk
Store below 25°C. Protect from light. Keep bottle tightly closed; do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
ASTHAlin Syrup is used to relieve symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) such as coughing, wheezing and breathlessness. It must be taken regularly to help keep the airways open at all times. Your doctor may regularly monitor your blood potassium levels. Inform your doctor if you notice muscle twitching, weakness, or an irregular heartbeat. Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart diseases or if you experience headaches, or chest pain.
