Atpark 50 mg Tablet contains Atenolol (50mg). It belongs to the Beta-blocker (beta-1 selective) class of medicines.

How Atpark 50 mg Tablet works

Atenolol is a cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic blocker. It reduces heart rate, force of contraction, and cardiac output, thereby lowering blood pressure and decreasing oxygen demand of the heart.

How to take Atpark 50 mg Tablet

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food; swallow with water. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Atpark 50 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a dangerously slow heartbeat, a severe fall in blood pressure, wheezing and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in asthma/COPD (may worsen bronchospasm), diabetes (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), thyroid disorders, peripheral vascular disease, and in patients with slow pulse/heart block or heart failure unless advised. Do not abruptly discontinue (risk of rebound hypertension/angina). Monitor blood pressure and pulse. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney impairment.

Do not take Atpark if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with a very slow heart rate, certain heart block disorders, or uncontrolled heart failure. Generally avoided in severe asthma.

Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), calcium channel blockers like verapamil/diltiazem (risk of bradycardia/heart block), digoxin (bradycardia), antiarrhythmics like amiodarone (conduction effects), NSAIDs (may reduce antihypertensive effect), clonidine (rebound hypertension on withdrawal), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masks hypoglycaemia), alcohol (increases dizziness)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Atpark 50 mg Tablet

It may cause dizziness. If this happens to you, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. It can hide symptoms of low blood sugar if you are diabetic. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly. Do not stop taking Atpark 50 Tablet suddenly as it can cause your blood pressure to rise suddenly, thereby increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
