Same salt, different brand — what does that mean?

A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Diapride M 2 Tablet. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.

All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.

Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.

Composition of Diapride M 2 Tablet

Diapride M 2 Tablet contains Glimepiride (2mg) + Metformin (500mg). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide class of medicines.

Uses of Diapride M 2 Tablet

Key benefits

  • Dual mechanism for better glucose control
  • Helps reduce HbA1c
  • Controls fasting and post-meal glucose
  • Convenient combination therapy

How Diapride M 2 Tablet works

Glimepiride increases insulin secretion from the pancreas to lower blood sugar. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, helping control fasting and post-meal glucose.

How to take Diapride M 2 Tablet

Take with meals as prescribed (often once daily with the main meal for SR metformin). Do not crush/chew sustained-release tablets. Monitor blood glucose; avoid skipping meals.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Diapride M1 Tablet PR, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Diapride M 2 Tablet

Most side effects of Diapride M are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

  • Hypoglycaemia
  • nausea
  • diarrhoea
  • abdominal discomfort
  • dizziness
  • metallic taste
  • weight gain

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Expert advice for Diapride M 2 Tablet

You should continue to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and take your other diabetes medicines along with Diapride M1 Tablet PR. Take it with food to lower your chance of having an upset stomach. Monitor your blood sugar level regularly while you are taking this medicine. It can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Inform your doctor about your diabetes treatment if you are due to have surgery under a general anesthetic. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing or if you have persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain as Diapride M1 Tablet PR may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood. Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
