A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Dibizide M Tablet. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.
All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.
Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.
Dibizide M Tablet contains Glipizide (5mg) + Metformin (500mg). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide class of medicines.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (to control high blood sugar when diet and exercise are not enough)
Glipizide (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin release from the pancreas. Metformin (a biguanide) reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, helping lower blood sugar.
Take with food as prescribed, usually once or twice daily. Swallow whole with water. Do not skip meals to reduce risk of low blood sugar.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Dibizide-M Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Most side effects of Dibizide M are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Hypoglycemia risk (higher with missed meals, strenuous exercise, alcohol). Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis; risk increases with kidney disease, dehydration, severe infection, or heavy alcohol use. Inform doctor before surgery/contrast dye tests. Monitor blood sugar and kidney function.
Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.
Alcohol, insulin/other antidiabetics, beta-blockers (mask hypoglycemia), ACE inhibitors, corticosteroids, thiazide/loop diuretics, rifampicin, cimetidine, iodinated contrast media
Store below 25°C, protect from moisture and light.
Monitor your blood sugar level regularly while you are taking this medicine. It can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Inform your doctor about your diabetes treatment if you are due to have surgery under a general anesthetic. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing or if you have persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain as Dibizide-M Tablet may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood. Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
