How Embeta Tm 50 works

How to take Embeta Tm 50

Oral tablets; take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time. Can be taken with or without food; swallow whole (do not crush/chew if extended-release). Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a severe fall in blood pressure, with dizziness, fainting and a fast or slow pulse. It can cause a dangerously slow heartbeat, a severe fall in blood pressure, wheezing and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Embeta Tm are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Not for use in pregnancy (risk to fetus) and generally avoid in breastfeeding unless prescribed. Use with caution in asthma/COPD, diabetes (may mask low sugar symptoms), thyroid disorders, peripheral vascular disease, kidney/liver impairment, dehydration, and in patients with low heart rate, heart block, or heart failure unless supervised. Monitor blood pressure, heart rate, kidney function and potassium. Do not stop beta-blocker abruptly (may worsen angina/trigger heart issues).

Do not take Embeta Tm if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Must not be used in pregnancy — it can seriously harm the developing baby. Not for people with narrowing of both kidney arteries, or a history of swelling of the face and throat caused by this group of medicines. Not for people with a very slow heart rate, certain heart block disorders, or uncontrolled heart failure. Generally avoided in severe asthma.

Interactions with other medicines

Other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering), diuretics, NSAIDs (may reduce effect and worsen kidney function), potassium supplements/salt substitutes and potassium-sparing diuretics (hyperkalemia), lithium (toxicity risk), digoxin and other rate-lowering drugs (e.g., verapamil, diltiazem, amiodarone) (bradycardia/heart block), clonidine (rebound hypertension if stopped improperly), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masked hypoglycemia), alcohol (increases dizziness)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
