Composition of Jubiglim M2 Forte

Jubiglim M2 Forte contains Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg (extended-release/sustained-release). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide (combination) class of medicines.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient; helps control high blood sugar and improve glycaemic control.

How Jubiglim M2 Forte works

Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin. Metformin (a biguanide) reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, lowering blood glucose levels.

How to take Jubiglim M2 Forte

Oral tablet. Usually taken once daily with the first main meal (or as directed by doctor). Swallow whole; do not crush/chew (especially if ER/SR). Take at the same time each day and follow prescribed diet/exercise plan.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Jubiglim M2 Forte

Most side effects of Jubiglim M2 Forte are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nausea
• diarrhoea
• abdominal discomfort
• decreased appetite
• metallic taste
• headache
• dizziness
• hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
• weight gain

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only antidiabetic. Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, alcohol, strenuous exercise, elderly, or with other antidiabetics). Metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, vomiting, or unusual sleepiness. Avoid/use with caution in severe kidney impairment; monitor renal function before and during therapy. Use caution in liver disease, heart failure, dehydration, severe infection, or low oxygen states. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast procedures or major surgery as advised by doctor. Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c regularly.

Do not take Jubiglim M2 Forte if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases risk of hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis), insulin/other antidiabetics (increased hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), corticosteroids and thiazide/loop diuretics (may raise blood glucose), ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemia risk), quinolones (may alter glucose), cimetidine (may increase metformin levels), iodinated contrast media (risk of kidney injury/lactic acidosis), NSAIDs and other highly protein-bound drugs (may increase sulfonylurea effect)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Jubiglim M2 Forte

Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes. Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them.
