Justoza M 10/500 Tablet contains Metformin (500mg) + Dapagliflozin (10mg). It belongs to the SGLT2 inhibitor + Biguanide class of medicines.

Uses of Justoza M 10/500 Tablet

Type 2 diabetes mellitus: to improve glycaemic control as an add-on to diet and exercise in adults when treatment with both dapagliflozin and metformin is appropriate.

How Justoza M 10/500 Tablet works

Dapagliflozin is an SGLT2 inhibitor that lowers blood glucose by increasing urinary glucose excretion via the kidneys and also promotes mild diuresis. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, decreasing intestinal glucose absorption and improving peripheral glucose uptake.

How to take Justoza M 10/500 Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily (or as directed) with food to reduce stomach upset; swallow whole with water. Maintain adequate hydration; follow diet/exercise advice and monitor blood glucose as advised.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. It can cause dehydration and a fall in blood pressure. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Justoza M 10/500 Tablet

Most side effects of Justoza M 10/500 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nausea
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• loss of appetite
• metallic taste
• genital fungal infection (thrush)
• urinary tract infection
• increased urination
• thirst
• dizziness
• low blood sugar (especially with insulin/sulfonylureas)

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Schedule H: use under medical supervision. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with severe kidney disease, dehydration, sepsis, excessive alcohol use, liver disease, or hypoxia; stop and seek care if rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, or unusual sleepiness occurs. Dapagliflozin may cause genital/urinary infections, volume depletion/low BP, and (rare) ketoacidosis even with near-normal sugars—seek urgent care for nausea/vomiting, abdominal pain, rapid breathing, confusion. Assess kidney function before and during therapy; not recommended in severe renal impairment; temporary interruption may be needed during acute illness, prolonged fasting, major surgery, or iodinated contrast procedures as per clinician advice. Monitor for hypoglycaemia when used with insulin or sulfonylureas.

Do not take Justoza M 10/500 if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk),diuretics (increased dehydration/low BP risk),ACE inhibitors/ARBs/NSAIDs (may affect kidney function especially with dehydration),iodinated contrast media (increased lactic acidosis risk with metformin—temporary withholding may be required),carbonic anhydrase inhibitors e.g. topiramate/acetazolamide (increased metabolic acidosis risk),cimetidine (may increase metformin levels),alcohol (increases lactic acidosis risk),rifampicin/phenytoin (may alter glycaemic control)

How to store Justoza M 10/500 Tablet

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Justoza M 10/500 Tablet

Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them. Take it in the morning so the extra urine does not disturb your sleep. Keep up your fluid intake and maintain genital hygiene. Tell any doctor treating you for an acute illness that you take this medicine.
