Composition of Lglip 5 Tablet

Lglip 5 Tablet contains Linagliptin 5 mg. It belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor (gliptin) class of medicines.

How Lglip 5 Tablet works

Linagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor. It increases levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), which enhance glucose-dependent insulin release and reduce glucagon secretion, lowering blood glucose with a low risk of hypoglycaemia when used alone.

How to take Lglip 5 Tablet

Oral tablet. Usual adult dose: 5 mg once daily, with or without food, at the same time each day. Swallow whole with water. Dose adjustments and combination therapy should be as advised by a doctor.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause low blood sugar, particularly if you also take other diabetes medicines. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Lglip 5 Tablet

Most side effects of Lglip are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nasopharyngitis
• cough
• headache
• diarrhoea
• upper respiratory tract infection
• hypersensitivity reactions (rash/urticaria)
• hypoglycaemia (more likely when used with sulfonylureas/insulin)

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Lglip 5 Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Stop and seek medical help if symptoms of pancreatitis occur (severe persistent abdominal pain). Rare severe joint pain and hypersensitivity/angioedema may occur. Monitor for hypoglycaemia when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas (dose reduction of those agents may be needed). Use with caution in severe hepatic impairment; generally no renal dose adjustment needed for linagliptin, but follow physician advice. Inform doctor about history of pancreatitis.

Do not take Lglip if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk), rifampicin and other strong P-gp/CYP3A4 inducers (may reduce linagliptin efficacy), carbamazepine/phenytoin/phenobarbital (may reduce effect), other antidiabetic drugs (additive glucose lowering)

How to store Lglip 5 Tablet

Store below 25°C, in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
