How Semi Amaryl 0.5 mg works

How to take Semi Amaryl 0.5 mg

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you missed a a dose of Semi-Amaryl Tablet, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time.

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia is higher with missed meals, excessive exercise, alcohol intake, elderly patients, or kidney/liver impairment. Use with caution in renal or hepatic disease; dose adjustment may be needed. Not recommended for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (requires insulin). Inform doctor if you have G6PD deficiency (risk of haemolysis), sulfonamide allergy, or if you develop signs of severe hypoglycaemia. Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia risk), insulin and other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemic effect), NSAIDs and salicylates (may increase hypoglycaemia), corticosteroids and diuretics (may increase blood glucose), rifampicin (reduces effect), azole antifungals like fluconazole/miconazole (increase effect), warfarin (may alter anticoagulant effect)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Semi Amaryl 0.5 mg

Take Semi-Amaryl Tablet shortly before or with the first main meal of the day (usually breakfast). Exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet and take your other diabetes medicines (if prescribed) alongside. Monitor your blood sugar level regularly while you are taking Semi-Amaryl Tablet. Semi-Amaryl Tablet can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Be careful while driving or operating machinery until you know how Semi-Amaryl Tablet affects you. Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemic symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor and anxiety. Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms, such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
