Composition of Shelcal-Ct Tablet

Shelcal-Ct Tablet contains Calcium carbonate 500 mg (equivalent to elemental calcium 200 mg) + Calcitriol 0.25 mcg. It belongs to the Mineral supplement + Active vitamin D analog (calcitriol) class of medicines.

How Shelcal-Ct Tablet works

Calcium carbonate supplies elemental calcium required for bone mineralization and normal neuromuscular function. Calcitriol (active vitamin D3) increases intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate and reduces secondary hyperparathyroidism, helping improve bone density and correct hypocalcaemia.

How to take Shelcal-Ct Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take as prescribed by the doctor, usually once daily after food; swallow with water. Do not exceed the recommended dose; maintain adequate hydration and avoid taking simultaneously with iron, thyroid medicine or certain antibiotics (keep a 2–4 hour gap).

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can raise blood calcium dangerously, causing thirst, frequent urination, vomiting, confusion and kidney damage. It may be harmful — seek medical advice immediately. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in kidney disease, kidney stones, hypercalcaemia, hypervitaminosis D, sarcoidosis or other granulomatous disease. Monitor serum calcium/phosphate and renal function if used long term or in renal impairment. Overdose may cause severe hypercalcaemia with confusion, arrhythmias and kidney damage—seek medical help. Inform doctor if pregnant/breastfeeding or taking other calcium/vitamin D products.

Do not take Shelcal-Ct if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with a high blood calcium level, or with certain kidney stones. Your doctor will confirm this medicine is suitable for you.

Interactions with other medicines

Thiazide diuretics (↑hypercalcaemia risk), digoxin/cardiac glycosides (arrhythmia risk with high calcium), bisphosphonates, tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones (reduced antibiotic absorption), levothyroxine (reduced absorption), iron and zinc salts (reduced absorption), corticosteroids (reduce calcium absorption), antiepileptics like phenytoin/carbamazepine (reduce vitamin D effect), cholestyramine/orlistat (reduce vitamin D absorption)

How to store Shelcal-Ct Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.

Take calcium with food, and split the day's total if you take a large amount. Sunlight helps your body make its own vitamin D. Have your level rechecked as your doctor advises rather than continuing high doses indefinitely. Take it at the same time each day and complete the course.
