Composition of Tenoric 25 Tablet

Tenoric 25 Tablet contains Atenolol (25mg) + Chlorthalidone (12.5mg). It belongs to the Beta-blocker + Thiazide-like diuretic (atenolol + chlorthalidone) class of medicines.

Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); may be used when single-drug therapy is insufficient to control BP.

How Tenoric 25 Tablet works

Atenolol is a selective beta-1 blocker that slows heart rate and reduces the force of contraction, lowering cardiac output and blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is a thiazide-like diuretic that increases salt and water excretion from the kidneys, reducing blood volume and peripheral resistance.

How to take Tenoric 25 Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice; if a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless it is close to the next dose.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Tenoric 25 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a dangerously slow heartbeat, a severe fall in blood pressure, wheezing and fits. It can cause severe dehydration, a sharp fall in blood pressure and dangerous salt imbalances. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Tenoric 25 Tablet

Most side effects of Tenoric are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Dizziness
• fatigue
• slow heart rate (bradycardia)
• low blood pressure
• headache
• cold extremities
• nausea
• increased urination
• electrolyte imbalance (low potassium/low sodium)
• increased uric acid
• increased blood sugar

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in asthma/COPD (may worsen bronchospasm), diabetes (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), thyroid disease (may mask thyrotoxicosis), peripheral vascular disease, and in the elderly. Avoid abrupt discontinuation (risk of angina/arrhythmias). Monitor BP, pulse, kidney function, and electrolytes (especially potassium and sodium). Use caution in kidney impairment and in patients with gout/hyperuricaemia. Not recommended in severe bradycardia, 2nd/3rd degree heart block, cardiogenic shock, severe uncontrolled heart failure, or severe hypotension unless directed by a physician.

Do not take Tenoric if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with a very slow heart rate, certain heart block disorders, or uncontrolled heart failure. Generally avoided in severe asthma. Not for people who are unable to pass urine, or who are severely dehydrated.

Interactions with other medicines

Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), verapamil/diltiazem/amiodarone/digoxin (increased risk of bradycardia/heart block), clonidine (rebound hypertension on withdrawal), NSAIDs (reduced antihypertensive/diuretic effect), lithium (increased lithium levels/toxicity), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masked hypoglycaemia), corticosteroids and amphotericin B (increased risk of hypokalaemia), alcohol (increased dizziness), ACE inhibitors/ARBs (additive BP lowering, monitor potassium/renal function)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Tenoric 25 Tablet

It is a combination of two blood pressure lowering medications used for the treatment of high blood pressure. It can be taken with or without food. Do not stop taking Tenoric 25 Tablet suddenly as it can cause your blood pressure to rise suddenly thereby increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. It may cause dizziness. If this happens to you, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. It can hide symptoms of low blood sugar if you're diabetic. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly. Tenoric 25 Tablet may cause dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids and Inform your doctor if you develop extreme thirst, muscle weakness or very dry mouth.
