How Terbinator Cream works

Terbinator-M Cream is a combination of two medicines: Mometasone and Terbinafine which treat skin infections. Mometasone is a steroid medicine. It blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Terbinafine is an antifungal which stops the growth of fungi by preventing them from forming their own protective covering.

How to take Terbinator Cream

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Terbinator-M Cream, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can suppress the body's own steroid production when it is used for a long time over large areas, especially in children. It can cause vomiting, liver injury and heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Terbinator are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Use it only on the area and for the number of days your doctor specified. Potent steroid creams thin the skin permanently when used for too long. Never use a potent steroid cream on the face, the groin or the underarms unless your doctor has specifically told you to — the skin there is thin and absorbs much more. Do not use it on an infection. A steroid on ringworm, impetigo or herpes makes the infection worse while hiding it. Do not use leftover cream on a new rash, and never pass it to someone else. Stop and see your doctor if the area becomes more painful, weepy or crusted. Fungal skin and nail infections need long courses — weeks for skin, months for nails. Stopping when it looks better is the commonest reason it returns. Your doctor may check your liver with a blood test during a long course. Report yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine or persistent nausea at once. Tell your doctor if you have heart failure before taking itraconazole. Do not take Terbinator if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for untreated bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections. Not for use in or around the eyes. Not for people with active liver disease, and several are not for use in pregnancy. Itraconazole is not for people with heart failure.

Interactions with other medicines

No significant interactions are expected from preparations used on the skin. Interacts strongly with statins, some heart medicines, blood thinners and sedatives — some combinations must be avoided altogether. Acid-reducing medicines lower the absorption of itraconazole.

How to store Terbinator Cream

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Close the cap tightly after each use. Keep out of the reach of children.

Expert advice for Terbinator Cream

Terbinator-M Cream must be applied to the affected area as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use this medicine more often or for longer than advised by your doctor. Before each application, wash the affected area with soap and water and dry well. Avoid getting it in the eyes, mouth or nose. Rinse with cold water if you accidentally get it in these areas. Stop using Terbinator-M Cream and inform your doctor if you notice any irritation, or any other skin infection. Inform your doctor if the treated skin area does not improve after 2-6 weeks of treatment. It is advisable not to touch or scratch the infected area as it can worsen the situation.
