Vildapride 50 mg Tablet contains Vildagliptin (50mg). It belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor (gliptin) class of medicines.

How Vildapride 50 mg Tablet works

Vildagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor. It increases levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), which enhance glucose-dependent insulin release and reduce glucagon secretion, lowering blood glucose mainly after meals with a low risk of hypoglycaemia when used alone.

How to take Vildapride 50 mg Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day, with or without food. Common regimens: 50 mg once daily or 50 mg twice daily depending on combination therapy and kidney function; do not stop without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of VILDApride 50 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause low blood sugar, particularly if you also take other diabetes medicines. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be needed); avoid/contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment. Rare risk of pancreatitis—seek urgent care for severe persistent abdominal pain. Hypersensitivity reactions (angioedema, rash) may occur. Use caution in heart failure; follow physician advice. Not recommended in children unless prescribed by a specialist.

Do not take Vildapride if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased risk of hypoglycaemia), ACE inhibitors (may increase risk of angioedema), corticosteroids/thiazide diuretics/sympathomimetics (may raise blood glucose and reduce control).
