Vildapride M 50/500 Tablet contains Metformin (500mg) + Vildagliptin (50mg). It belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor + Biguanide class of medicines.

How Vildapride M 50/500 Tablet works

Vildagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormones (GLP-1, GIP), leading to glucose-dependent increase in insulin release and reduced glucagon. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, lowering fasting and post-meal glucose.

How to take Vildapride M 50/500 Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take as prescribed, usually with meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew. Take at the same time daily and continue diet/exercise plan.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. It may cause low blood sugar, particularly if you also take other diabetes medicines. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription only (Schedule H). Risk of lactic acidosis with metformin (higher in kidney impairment, dehydration, sepsis, hypoxia, heavy alcohol use); stop and seek urgent care if rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, or unusual sleepiness occur. Avoid/use with caution in renal impairment; check eGFR before start and periodically. Use caution in hepatic impairment. Risk of pancreatitis with vildagliptin—stop if severe persistent abdominal pain. Monitor for hypersensitivity reactions and rare bullous pemphigoid. Temporarily stop metformin before iodinated contrast/surgery as advised. Monitor vitamin B12 with long-term use.

Do not take Vildapride M 50/500 if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate, acetazolamide), cationic drugs affecting renal tubular secretion (e.g., cimetidine), diuretics and ACE inhibitors/ARBs (may affect renal function), corticosteroids and thiazides (may raise glucose), insulin/sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycemia risk)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
