Composition of Zincoderm-S

Zincoderm-S contains Clobetasol (0.05% w/w) + Zinc (2.5% w/w) + Salicylic Acid (3% w/w). It belongs to the Skin protectant (zinc oxide) + Keratolytic (salicylic acid) class of medicines.

How Zincoderm-S works

Zinc oxide forms a protective barrier on the skin and has mild astringent and antiseptic action, helping reduce irritation and moisture-related rash. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic that softens and loosens the outer layer of skin, reducing scaling and helping other ingredients act better.

How to take Zincoderm-S

For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer 1–2 times daily or as directed by a doctor. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and mucosa; wash hands after use unless hands are the treated area.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can suppress the body's own steroid production when it is used for a long time over large areas, especially in children. It can cause vomiting, stomach pain and, with some minerals, damage over the longer term. It can cause severe irritation when far too much cream is applied; an oral retinoid taken in excess can cause headache, vomiting and liver injury. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Zincoderm-S

Most side effects of Zincoderm-S are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not apply on broken skin, deep wounds, large areas, or under occlusive dressings unless advised by a doctor. Stop use and seek medical advice if severe irritation, swelling, blistering, or worsening occurs. Avoid use in children/infants except on medical advice (especially on large areas/diaper area). Use cautiously in people allergic to salicylates; excessive use may increase salicylate absorption. Not for eyes or mucosal surfaces.

Do not take Zincoderm-S if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for untreated bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections. Not for use in or around the eyes. Oral retinoids are absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy and in anyone who might become pregnant without a pregnancy prevention programme. Topical retinoids are avoided in pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Other topical keratolytics/exfoliants (benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, glycolic acid), topical irritants (alcohol-based products), anticoagulants/salicylates if significant absorption occurs (rare with small-area use)

How to store Zincoderm-S

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), tightly closed. Protect from heat, moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Zincoderm-S

Apply a thin layer — a fingertip's worth covers an area about the size of two adult palms. Use a plain moisturiser generously alongside it; that is what keeps eczema away between flares. Ask your doctor for a written plan of how long to use it and when to step down. Take it with food to reduce nausea. A varied diet remains the best source of these nutrients. Apply retinoids at night to clean, dry skin, and moisturise afterwards. Give it at least eight to twelve weeks before judging whether it works. Do not pick or squeeze spots — that is what leaves scars.
