Online consultation for back pain

Most back and neck pain comes from strained muscles and joints, and gets better within a few weeks. Staying gently active helps more than bed rest. Pain that runs down the leg (sciatica) often settles too. A scan is needed only when there are warning signs or the pain does not improve.

An online consult can help with

  • Lower back pain after lifting, bending or a long drive
  • Neck and shoulder pain from desk work or phone use
  • Pain that spreads down one leg (sciatica)
  • Back pain that keeps coming back
  • Understanding an X-ray or MRI report

See a doctor in person if

  • Trouble breathing, chest pain, fainting, confusion or a seizure: go to the nearest emergency department or call 108.
  • Numbness around the genitals or buttocks, new difficulty passing urine, or losing control of urine or stool: call 108 now
  • New weakness in the legs, or difficulty walking
  • Back pain after a fall or an accident
  • Back pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, or a history of cancer
  • Severe pain that is there all night and is not eased by rest

How an online consultation works

  1. 1

Tell the doctor what is wrong

A few short questions, about two minutes. Add photos or reports if you have them.

  2. 2

    Pay. The chat opens.

Chat from ₹199. A doctor usually replies within 30 minutes. The doctor can switch to video if needed; some prescription medicines need a short video call first.

  3. 3

    A plan, in writing

What it is likely to be, what to take and what to avoid. A prescription where appropriate, and 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.

  4. 4

    Tests at home, if needed

Book any test the doctor suggests with home sample collection where available, and share the report in the same chat within the 48 hours.

What the doctor may do

  • Ask about the pain, the leg symptoms and the warning signs
  • Advise on pain relief, heat and staying active
  • Show you simple exercises to start with
  • Prescribe medicine where clinically appropriate
  • Tell you when you need an X-ray, an MRI or an orthopaedic doctor

Tests the doctor may suggest

Only if your symptoms call for them. You can book these with home sample collection where available.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an MRI for back pain?
Usually not in the first six weeks. Most back pain settles on its own, and an MRI often shows changes that are normal with age. A scan is needed when there are warning signs or pain that does not improve.
Should I rest in bed?
No. Short rest when the pain is bad is fine, but staying gently active helps you recover faster. The doctor tells you what to do and what to avoid.
Why does the doctor ask about morning stiffness?
Back pain in a young adult that is worse in the morning, eases with movement and has lasted months can be inflammatory back pain (spondyloarthritis), which is treated differently.
Who will I be speaking to?
A registered general physician from PingMeDoc's online panel. There is no orthopaedic doctor on the panel yet, and the booking page says so before you pay. The doctor treats what can be treated online and tells you when you need to see one in person. Every doctor's registration is checked before they join.
How much does the online consultation cost?
A chat consultation starts at ₹199. The exact fee is shown before you pay, and it includes 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.
How quickly will a doctor reply?
The chat opens as soon as you pay. A doctor usually replies within 30 minutes, and the doctor can switch to a call or video if they need to see you.
