Online consultation for irregular periods

Cycles between 21 and 35 days are normal, and a cycle that changes now and then is common. Periods that are often late, missed, too frequent or very heavy usually have a cause that can be found: pregnancy, PCOS, thyroid, high prolactin, stress, weight change or approaching menopause. The first step is a pregnancy test and a few blood tests.

An online consult can help with

  • Periods that are late, missed or come too often
  • Heavier or longer periods than before
  • Spotting between periods
  • Periods that changed after stopping the pill
  • Understanding a hormone or ultrasound report

See a doctor in person if

  • Trouble breathing, chest pain, fainting, confusion or a seizure: go to the nearest emergency department or call 108.
  • Soaking through a pad every hour for two hours or more, or bleeding with dizziness or fainting
  • Severe lower tummy pain, especially if you could be pregnant
  • A positive pregnancy test with pain or bleeding
  • Bleeding after menopause (no period for a year): see a gynaecologist in person
  • Bleeding after sex

How an online consultation works

  1. 1

Tell the doctor what is wrong

A few short questions, about two minutes. Add photos or reports if you have them.

  2. 2

    Pay. The chat opens.

Chat from ₹199. A doctor usually replies within 30 minutes. The doctor can switch to video if needed; some prescription medicines need a short video call first.

  3. 3

    A plan, in writing

What it is likely to be, what to take and what to avoid. A prescription where appropriate, and 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.

  4. 4

    Tests at home, if needed

Book any test the doctor suggests with home sample collection where available, and share the report in the same chat within the 48 hours.

What the doctor may do

  • Ask about your cycle, bleeding, weight, skin and stress
  • Check whether you need a pregnancy test first
  • Suggest tests for thyroid, prolactin, PCOS and haemoglobin
  • Read your reports with you
  • Prescribe treatment where clinically appropriate
  • Refer you to a gynaecologist for a scan or an examination when you need one

Tests the doctor may suggest

Only if your symptoms call for them. You can book these with home sample collection where available.

Frequently asked questions

When are irregular periods a concern?
When cycles are often shorter than 21 days or longer than 35, when you miss three or more periods in a row, when bleeding is very heavy, or when you bleed between periods or after sex. A doctor helps find the cause.
Can thyroid problems cause irregular periods?
Yes. Both an underactive and an overactive thyroid can change your cycle. A thyroid test is one of the first tests the doctor suggests.
Is it PCOS?
PCOS is a common cause, but not the only one. It is diagnosed from your periods, signs such as acne or extra hair, and blood tests or an ultrasound, after ruling out thyroid and prolactin problems.
Who will I be speaking to?
A registered general physician from PingMeDoc's online panel. There is no gynaecologist on the panel yet, and the booking page says so before you pay. The doctor treats what can be treated online and tells you when you need to see one in person. Every doctor's registration is checked before they join.
How much does the online consultation cost?
A chat consultation starts at ₹199. The exact fee is shown before you pay, and it includes 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.
How quickly will a doctor reply?
The chat opens as soon as you pay. A doctor usually replies within 30 minutes, and the doctor can switch to a call or video if they need to see you.
