It can cause vomiting, severe drowsiness, a racing heart and, with codeine, dangerously slow breathing. Beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol) may reduce effect; other sympathomimetics may increase side effects. MAO inhibitors/tricyclic antidepressants can increase cardiovascular effects. Diuretics and corticosteroids may increase risk of low potassium; digoxin toxicity risk may increase with hypokalemia. Theophylline may increase stimulatory effects.
