Same salt, different brand — what does that mean?

A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Amlodac D Tablet. The brand name, manufacturer, inactive ingredients and price can differ, and so can release form, so a substitute is not automatically interchangeable.

All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.

Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.

Composition of Amlodac D Tablet

Amlodac D Tablet contains Amlodipine (5mg) + Indapamide (1.5mg). It belongs to the Calcium channel blocker and Water tablet class of medicines.

Uses of Amlodac D Tablet

Hypertension (high blood pressure)

Benefits of Amlodac D Tablet

In High blood pressure
Amlodac D relaxes the muscle in the walls of your arteries so blood flows with less pressure. Keeping blood pressure down protects you from stroke, heart attack and kidney damage over the years.
In Angina
Amlodac D widens the vessels that supply the heart and eases its workload, so you get fewer episodes of chest pain and can do more before pain comes on.
In Heart failure
Amlodac D clears the fluid that collects in the lungs and legs when the heart is weak, so breathing is easier and the swelling in your ankles goes down.
In Fluid retention
Amlodac D makes you pass more urine so that trapped fluid leaves the body, relieving swelling and the heaviness and discomfort that go with it.

How Amlodac D Tablet works

Amlodipine and indapamide which lower blood pressure effectively. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker which relaxes blood vessels and makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood throughout the body. Indapamide is a diuretic which removes extra water and certain electrolytes from the body by increasing the amount of urine produced. Over time it also works by relaxing blood vessels and improving blood flow.

Warnings and precautions

Ankle swelling is the commonest reason people stop this medicine — tell your doctor, as there are ways to manage it. Tell your doctor if your chest pain becomes more frequent or more severe after starting. Swollen, tender or overgrown gums should be reported; good brushing and regular dental care reduce the risk. Take it in the morning so that passing urine does not disturb your sleep. Your doctor will check your salts and kidney function with blood tests — do not skip them. Report muscle cramps, marked weakness, confusion or an irregular heartbeat; these can be signs your potassium or sodium has fallen. In hot weather or during an illness with vomiting or loose motions, tell your doctor — you may become dehydrated quickly.

Do not take Amlodac D if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with very low blood pressure or with severe narrowing of the aortic valve. Not for people who are unable to pass urine, or who are severely dehydrated.

Interactions with other medicines

Grapefruit juice raises the level of some of these medicines in the blood — avoid it. Tell your doctor about other blood pressure medicines, and about simvastatin in particular. Anti-inflammatory painkillers blunt the effect and can strain the kidneys. Lithium and digoxin levels are affected; tell your doctor if you take either. Potassium-sparing types must not be combined with potassium supplements without supervision.

How to store Amlodac D Tablet

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
