Composition of Ascoril LS Junior Syrup

Ascoril LS Junior Syrup contains Guaiphenesin (50mg/5ml) + Ambroxol (15mg/5ml) + Levosalbutamol (0.5mg/5ml). It belongs to the Beta-2 agonist + Mucolytic + Expectorant class of medicines.

How Ascoril LS Junior Syrup works

Levosalbutamol is a beta-2 agonist that relaxes airway smooth muscles and helps relieve bronchospasm. Ambroxol is a mucolytic that reduces mucus viscosity and improves clearance. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that increases hydration of secretions, making cough more productive and easing congestion.

How to take Ascoril LS Junior Syrup

Use as directed by the physician. Measure with a dosing cup/spoon; usually taken orally 2–3 times daily. Can be taken with or without food; taking after food may reduce stomach upset. Shake well before use and ensure adequate fluid intake.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe drowsiness, a racing heart and, with codeine, dangerously slow breathing. It can cause a racing heart, marked tremor, headache and a fall in blood potassium. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

For children, use only on medical advice and do not exceed recommended dose. Use with caution in asthma requiring frequent bronchodilator use, heart disease/arrhythmias, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, seizure disorders, and in kidney/liver impairment. Stop and seek medical help if severe allergic reaction, worsening breathing, persistent fever, or cough lasts >1 week. Not for dry cough without mucus unless advised by a doctor.

Do not take Ascoril LS Junior if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Codeine-containing preparations are not for children, or for anyone with breathing difficulty. Not for anyone with a known allergy to the propellant used in the inhaler.

Interactions with other medicines

Beta-blockers (may reduce effect of levosalbutamol), other sympathomimetics (increased side effects), MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants (increased cardiovascular effects), diuretics or corticosteroids (risk of low potassium with beta-agonists), digoxin (arrhythmia risk with hypokalemia)

How to store Ascoril LS Junior Syrup

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.

Drink plenty of water — it thins mucus better than any syrup. Steam inhalation helps congestion and costs nothing. Measure the dose with the cup supplied. Keep a spare reliever and check the counter so you are not caught with an empty one. Follow your written asthma action plan if you have one. Do not stop a preventer because you feel better — that is the medicine working.
