Compare all substitutes
Same salt, different brand — what does that mean?

A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Candid Gel. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.

All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.

Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.

Composition of Candid Gel

Candid Gel contains Clotrimazole (1%w/w). It belongs to the Imidazole antifungal class of medicines.

Uses of Candid Gel

  • Treatment of fungal skin infections such as ringworm (tinea corporis)
  • athlete’s foot (tinea pedis)
  • jock itch (tinea cruris)
  • cutaneous candidiasis and pityriasis (tinea) versicolor.

Key benefits

  • Relieves itching and redness due to fungal infection
  • Treats ringworm/athlete’s foot/jock itch
  • Helps clear Candida-related skin infection
  • Reduces scaling and discomfort
  • Prevents worsening/spread when used regularly

How Candid Gel works

Clotrimazole is an imidazole antifungal that inhibits synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This damages the membrane and stops growth of fungi, helping clear infection and symptoms like itching and redness.

How to take Candid Gel

For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer of gel to the affected skin (and surrounding area) 2-3 times daily or as directed by a doctor. Continue for the full prescribed duration even if symptoms improve; avoid contact with eyes, mouth and broken skin.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Candid as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Candid than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Candid Gel

Most side effects of Candid are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

  • Burning
  • stinging
  • itching
  • redness
  • irritation
  • dryness
  • peeling
  • rash

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Schedule H medicine—use as advised by a doctor. For external use only; do not apply in eyes, mouth or inside vagina. Stop use and seek medical advice if severe irritation/allergic reaction occurs (swelling, blistering, severe rash). If no improvement within 2 weeks (or symptoms worsen), consult a doctor. Use with caution on large areas or under occlusion; keep out of reach of children.

Interactions with other medicines

No significant interactions expected with topical clotrimazole; concomitant use with other topical products on the same area may increase irritation. (Clinically relevant interaction mainly reported with vaginal clotrimazole reducing latex contraceptive reliability.)
