Composition of Cardace 10 mg Tablet

Cardace 10 mg Tablet contains Ramipril (10mg). It belongs to the ACE inhibitor (Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor) class of medicines.

Uses of Cardace 10 mg Tablet

• Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); reduction of risk of heart attack
• stroke and cardiovascular death in high-risk patients; management of heart failure; post–myocardial infarction (heart attack) with signs of heart failure; kidney protection in certain patients with diabetes/proteinuria (as prescribed).

How Cardace 10 mg Tablet works

Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor that blocks conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, leading to relaxation of blood vessels and reduced blood pressure. It also lowers aldosterone, reducing salt and water retention and decreasing workload on the heart.

How to take Cardace 10 mg Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Cardace 10 Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a severe fall in blood pressure, with dizziness, fainting and a fast or slow pulse. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Cardace 10 mg Tablet

Most side effects of Cardace are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Dry cough
• dizziness
• headache
• fatigue
• low blood pressure
• nausea
• diarrhoea
• increased blood potassium
• increased creatinine/renal function changes

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not use in pregnancy; stop and seek medical help if swelling of face/lips/tongue (angioedema) occurs. Use with caution in kidney disease, liver disease, dehydration/diuretic use, low blood pressure, heart valve disease, and in the elderly. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and potassium especially after starting or dose changes. Avoid potassium supplements/salt substitutes unless advised.

Do not take Cardace if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Must not be used in pregnancy — it can seriously harm the developing baby. Not for people with narrowing of both kidney arteries, or a history of swelling of the face and throat caused by this group of medicines.

Interactions with other medicines

Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone, eplerenone, amiloride), other antihypertensives/diuretics (may cause excessive BP fall), NSAIDs (ibuprofen/diclofenac—reduced effect and kidney risk), lithium (toxicity risk), ARBs/aliskiren (higher risk of kidney issues/hyperkalaemia), sacubitril/valsartan (angioedema risk—washout required), trimethoprim (hyperkalaemia risk)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Cardace 10 mg Tablet

Cardace 10 Tablet can make you feel dizzy for the first few days, so rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. You can also prefer taking it at bedtime to avoid dizziness throughout the day. Let your doctor know about any cough or throat irritation that does not go away. It may increase the level of potassium in the blood. Avoid taking potassium supplements and potassium-rich foods such as bananas and broccoli. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
