How to take Glucored Forte Tablet

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Glucored Forte are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• GI upset (nausea
• diarrhea); rare risk of lactic acidosis.

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Inform clinician about kidney problems; withhold around iodinated contrast when advised.

Do not take Glucored Forte if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Many medicines change how strongly this works — tell your doctor about aspirin, blood thinners, antifungals, sulfa antibiotics and beta blockers in particular. Beta blockers can mask the warning signs of low blood sugar. Tell your doctor about water tablets, steroids, and any contrast dye scan. Alcohol increases the risk of the rare acid build-up and should be limited.

Take it with food to lower your chance of having an upset stomach. It can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Inform your doctor about your diabetes treatment if you are due to have surgery under a general anesthetic. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing or if you have persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain as Glucored Forte Tablet may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood. Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
