Terazosin 5 mg (as terazosin hydrochloride) tablet
Treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) symptoms such as weak urine stream, hesitancy and incomplete emptying; treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)
Terazosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic blocker. It relaxes smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to improve urine flow in BPH, and also relaxes blood vessels to lower blood pressure.
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at bedtime to reduce dizziness/first-dose fainting. Can be taken with or without food; swallow with water. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice.
Common side effects of HYTRIN 5MG may include:
May cause marked drop in blood pressure after the first dose or dose increases (risk of fainting); take first dose at bedtime and rise slowly from sitting/lying. Use caution when driving/operating machines until effects known. Inform doctor if you have low blood pressure, heart disease, history of syncope, liver impairment, or are planning cataract surgery (risk of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome). Seek urgent help for prolonged painful erection (priapism) or severe dizziness/fainting.
