Prevention and treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia; nutritional supplementation in pregnancy/lactation and periods of increased iron requirement (as advised by a clinician).
Iron replenishes body iron stores and supports haemoglobin formation and oxygen transport. Folic acid and/or vitamin B12 (if present) support red blood cell production; vitamin C may improve iron absorption. Exact mechanism depends on the formulation.
Take as directed by a doctor. Typically taken orally with water; often taken after food to reduce stomach upset (some iron products are better absorbed on an empty stomach—follow label/doctor advice). Avoid taking together with tea/coffee, dairy, calcium/antacids; keep a 2–4 hour gap.

Do not use in iron overload states (e.g., haemochromatosis/haemosiderosis) or non–iron-deficiency anaemia unless prescribed. Iron overdose can be dangerous, especially in children—store safely. Use with caution in peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and chronic liver disease. If severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or allergic symptoms occur, seek medical help.
