Meprol-T 50 mg Tablet contains Metoprolol succinate (extended-release) 50 mg. It belongs to the Cardioselective beta-blocker (Beta-1 adrenergic blocker) class of medicines.

How Meprol-T 50 mg Tablet works

Metoprolol is a cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic blocker. It reduces heart rate and contractility, lowering blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand, and helps control abnormal fast heart rhythms.

How to take Meprol-T 50 mg Tablet

Tablet (usually extended-release): take exactly as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew (especially ER tablets). Can be taken with or without food; taking with food may improve consistency. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Meprol-T as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Meprol-T than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Meprol-T 50 mg Tablet

Most side effects of Meprol-T are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• slow heart rate (bradycardia)
• low blood pressure
• headache
• nausea
• cold hands/feet
• sleep disturbances

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not discontinue abruptly (risk of worsening angina/MI). Use with caution in asthma/COPD (may cause bronchospasm), diabetes (masks hypoglycaemia symptoms), peripheral vascular disease, thyroid disorders, and in patients with bradycardia, heart block, or acute decompensated heart failure. Monitor blood pressure and pulse. May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected.

Interactions with other medicines

Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), verapamil/diltiazem (risk of bradycardia/heart block), digoxin (bradycardia), antiarrhythmics like amiodarone (conduction issues), clonidine (rebound hypertension if stopped improperly), NSAIDs (may reduce antihypertensive effect), CYP2D6 inhibitors such as fluoxetine/paroxetine/quinidine (increase metoprolol levels)

How to store Meprol-T 50 mg Tablet

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
