Composition of Regestrone Tablet

Regestrone Tablet contains Norethisterone (5mg). It belongs to the Progestin (synthetic progesterone) class of medicines.

Uses of Regestrone Tablet

• Treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding (dysfunctional uterine bleeding)
• secondary amenorrhoea
• endometriosis; to postpone/shift menstruation; management of menstrual disorders such as irregular
• heavy or painful periods (as prescribed).

How Regestrone Tablet works

Norethisterone is a synthetic progestin (progesterone-like hormone). It converts the proliferative endometrium to a secretory endometrium and stabilizes the uterine lining, reducing bleeding. Withdrawal of the hormone after stopping the tablets triggers a menstrual-like bleed.

How to take Regestrone Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor; dosing depends on the condition (e.g., for period delay often started a few days before expected menses and continued as advised). Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day and do not stop abruptly unless advised.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Regestrone 5mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause nausea, vomiting and withdrawal bleeding. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Regestrone Tablet

Most side effects of Regestrone are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• dizziness
• breast tenderness
• abdominal pain or bloating
• spotting/breakthrough bleeding
• change in menstrual flow
• mood changes
• weight gain
• acne
• fatigue

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only under medical supervision. Not recommended in pregnancy; rule out pregnancy before starting for amenorrhoea/bleeding. Caution/avoid in history of thromboembolism (DVT/PE), stroke, severe liver disease, liver tumors, unexplained vaginal bleeding, hormone-dependent cancers (e.g., breast/genital tract) unless directed by a specialist. May increase risk of blood clots; seek urgent care for leg swelling/pain, chest pain, shortness of breath, severe headache or vision changes. Use caution in diabetes, hypertension, migraine, depression, and smokers, especially >35 years.

Do not take Regestrone if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with a history of blood clots, certain hormone-sensitive cancers, or active liver disease. Several are contraindicated in pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Enzyme inducers may reduce effect: rifampicin/rifabutin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, primidone, topiramate, some antiretrovirals, St. John’s wort. May affect glucose tolerance (monitor with antidiabetics). Concomitant hormonal therapies may alter bleeding pattern/effect.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Take Regestrone 5mg Tablet each day as prescribed by your doctor to maintain stable hormone levels. Regestrone 5mg Tablet may cause spotting or light bleeding between periods; inform your doctor if it occurs frequently or becomes heavy. Regestrone 5mg Tablet is not a birth control medicine. Use a reliable non-hormonal method, such as condoms, to prevent pregnancy. Stop taking Regestrone 5mg Tablet and seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe headaches, sudden vision or hearing changes, chest pain, breathing difficulty, or swelling/pain in your legs. Inform your doctor if you have migraine with aura, high blood pressure, diabetes, liver disease, or a history of blood clots before taking Regestrone 5mg Tablet. Avoid smoking while taking Regestrone 5mg Tablet, as it may increase the risk of blood clots, especially in older women. Tell your doctor about all medicines or herbal supplements you are taking, as some may affect how Regestrone 5mg Tablet works. Seek medical advice if you develop yellowing of the skin/eyes or severe abdominal pain while using Regestrone 5mg Tablet. Your doctor may monitor your symptoms and treatment response during use. Consult your doctor if bleeding is associated with dizziness, weakness, or persistent cycle irregularities.
