Composition of Shelcal M Tablet

Shelcal M Tablet contains Calcium carbonate (equivalent to elemental calcium 500 mg) + Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol 250 IU). It belongs to the Calcium supplement + Vitamin D (cholecalciferol) class of medicines.

How Shelcal M Tablet works

Calcium carbonate provides elemental calcium needed for bone mineralization and normal nerve/muscle function. Vitamin D3 increases intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate, helping maintain adequate serum calcium and supporting bone strength.

How to take Shelcal M Tablet

Oral tablet; take as directed by doctor, usually 1 tablet once or twice daily. Preferably take after food; swallow whole with water. Maintain a gap of 2–4 hours from iron, levothyroxine, tetracycline/quinolone antibiotics, or bisphosphonates.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can raise blood calcium dangerously, causing thirst, frequent urination, vomiting, confusion and kidney damage. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Shelcal M Tablet

Most side effects of Shelcal M are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• nausea
• belching

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not use in hypercalcemia, hypervitaminosis D, severe kidney disease, kidney stones (nephrolithiasis), or sarcoidosis unless advised. Use with caution in renal impairment; monitor calcium levels if on long-term/high-dose therapy. Excess intake may cause hypercalcemia (thirst, vomiting, confusion, frequent urination).

Do not take Shelcal M if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with a high blood calcium level, or with certain kidney stones.

Interactions with other medicines

Levothyroxine, tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones (e.g., ciprofloxacin/levofloxacin), bisphosphonates (e.g., alendronate), iron salts, magnesium/zinc supplements, thiazide diuretics, digoxin, corticosteroids

How to store Shelcal M Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
