Sitagliptin (25mg)
Sitared 25 mg Tablet is used for treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve blood sugar control, as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines (along with diet and exercise).
Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Sitared 25 mg Tablet contains Sitagliptin (25mg). It belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor (gliptin) class of medicines.
Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP). This enhances glucose-dependent insulin release and reduces glucagon secretion, thereby lowering blood glucose levels with a low risk of hypoglycaemia when used alone.
Take orally exactly as prescribed, usually once daily, with or without food. Swallow tablet whole with water; take at the same time each day. Dose may need adjustment in kidney disease—do not change dose without doctor advice.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Sitared 25mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Taking more Sitared than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Sitared are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in kidney impairment; dose adjustment/monitoring of renal function is required. Rare but serious: pancreatitis (seek care for severe persistent abdominal pain), severe joint pain, hypersensitivity reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty), bullous pemphigoid. Risk of hypoglycaemia increases when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas—may require dose reduction. Inform doctor if you have history of pancreatitis.
Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk), digoxin (may increase digoxin levels—monitor), strong P-gp inhibitors may affect levels (clinical relevance usually low).
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
Sitared 25mg Tablet should be taken at the same time every day since this helps you remember to take it. It may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines or alcohol, or if you delay or miss a meal. Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool, pale skin, tremors, and anxiety. Be careful while driving or operating machinery until you know how Sitared 25mg Tablet affects you. Inform your doctor if you notice joint pain or develop symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, and/or vomiting. You should continue to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and take your other diabetes medicines along with this medicine. Monitor your blood sugar level regularly while taking this medicine.
