Ursobile 300 Tablet contains Ursodeoxycholic Acid (300mg). It belongs to the Bile acid (Ursodeoxycholic acid) class of medicines.

How Ursobile 300 Tablet works

Ursodeoxycholic acid is a hydrophilic bile acid that reduces cholesterol saturation in bile by decreasing hepatic cholesterol secretion and improving bile flow. It protects liver cells and bile ducts by reducing toxic bile acids and improving cholestasis.

How to take Ursobile 300 Tablet

Take the tablet orally as advised by the doctor, preferably with food or after meals. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew. Dose and duration depend on the condition (e.g., gallstones/PBC) and body weight.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

Warnings and precautions

Use only under medical supervision. Not suitable for non-cholesterol gallstones, calcified gallstones, acute gallbladder inflammation, biliary obstruction, or non-functioning gallbladder. Monitor liver function tests; response for gallstones may take months. Use caution in severe liver disease, pancreatitis, or if symptoms worsen; stop and seek care if severe diarrhoea occurs. May affect absorption of some medicines.

Interactions with other medicines

Bile acid sequestrants (cholestyramine/colestipol) and antacids containing aluminium reduce absorption (separate by 2–4 hours), ciclosporin (levels may change), estrogens/oral contraceptives and clofibrate may increase gallstone formation, certain lipid-lowering agents may reduce effect

Take Ursobile 300mg Tablet after a meal with a glass of milk or water to help improve its absorption and reduce stomach upset. Take Ursobile 300mg Tablet regularly at the same time each day, as it works gradually and may take time to show beneficial results. Follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly, and avoid alcohol while taking Ursobile 300mg Tablet. Avoid heavy or oily meals, as high-fat foods may worsen gallbladder or liver-related symptoms. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Drink plenty of fluids, including oral rehydration solution (ORS), and inform your doctor if it persists or if you notice blood in your stools. Your doctor may monitor liver function tests and bilirubin levels regularly, especially during the first few months of the treatment. Seek medical advice promptly if you develop worsening jaundice, severe itching, dark urine, pale stools, persistent abdominal pain, or fever. Do not stop taking Ursobile 300mg Tablet without consulting your doctor, as liver conditions often require monitored and continuous therapy. Inform your doctor about all other medicines, herbal products, or supplements you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
