Use with caution in severe liver disease, pancreatitis, or inflammatory bowel disease; stop and consult doctor if severe diarrhoea, worsening jaundice, or abdominal pain occurs.

Interactions with other medicines
Bile acid sequestrants (cholestyramine, colestipol) and antacids containing aluminium hydroxide may reduce absorption (separate dosing by 2–4 hours). Oestrogens, oral contraceptives and lipid-lowering drugs like clofibrate may increase biliary cholesterol and reduce gallstone dissolution efficacy. Cyclosporine levels may change; monitoring may be needed.
