Composition of Ursopack Tablet

Ursopack Tablet contains Ursodeoxycholic Acid (300mg). It belongs to the Bile acid (Ursodeoxycholic acid) class of medicines.

How Ursopack Tablet works

Ursodeoxycholic acid is a hydrophilic bile acid that reduces cholesterol saturation in bile by decreasing hepatic cholesterol secretion and improving bile flow. It helps dissolve cholesterol gallstones over time and protects liver cells from bile-acid–induced injury in cholestatic conditions.

How to take Ursopack Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually with food or after meals to improve tolerance. Swallow whole with water; take regularly at the same time each day. Duration may be several months for gallstone dissolution; do not stop without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Ursopack Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause loose motions and stomach upset. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Ursopack Tablet

Most side effects of Ursopack are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• dizziness
• back pain
• rash/itching
• transient rise in liver enzymes

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only under medical supervision. Not suitable for calcified (radio-opaque) gallstones, non-functioning gallbladder, acute gallbladder/bile duct inflammation, or biliary obstruction unless advised by a specialist. Monitor liver function tests during therapy. Use with caution in severe liver disease, pancreatitis, or persistent diarrhoea. Seek care for severe abdominal pain, jaundice worsening, or allergic reactions.

Do not take Ursopack if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack.

Interactions with other medicines

Bile acid sequestrants (cholestyramine/colestipol) reduce absorption; aluminium-containing antacids/sucralfate may reduce effect; ciclosporin levels may change (monitor); oestrogens/oral contraceptives and lipid-lowering agents like clofibrate may increase gallstone risk; warfarin/anticoagulants—monitor INR if used together

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Ursopack Tablet

Take Ursopack Tablet after a meal with a glass of milk or water to help improve its absorption and reduce stomach upset. Take Ursopack Tablet regularly at the same time each day, as it works gradually and may take time to show beneficial results. Follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly, and avoid alcohol while taking Ursopack Tablet. Avoid heavy or oily meals, as high-fat foods may worsen gallbladder or liver-related symptoms. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Drink plenty of fluids, including oral rehydration solution (ORS), and inform your doctor if it persists or if you notice blood in your stools. Your doctor may monitor liver function tests and bilirubin levels regularly, especially during the first few months of the treatment. Seek medical advice promptly if you develop worsening jaundice, severe itching, dark urine, pale stools, persistent abdominal pain, or fever. Do not stop taking Ursopack Tablet without consulting your doctor, as liver conditions often require monitored and continuous therapy. Inform your doctor about all other medicines, herbal products, or supplements you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
