How Vegefer Drops works

Vegefer drops likely provide elemental iron to replenish body iron stores. Iron is required to form hemoglobin in red blood cells, improving oxygen transport and reducing symptoms of anemia.

How to take Vegefer Drops

Oral drops: shake well before use. Measure the dose with the provided dropper as advised by the doctor. Can be given with or after food; if stomach upset occurs, give after meals. Avoid giving with milk/tea; vitamin C-rich liquids may improve absorption.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Vegefer as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Vegefer than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Vegefer Drops

Most side effects of Vegefer are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• diarrhea

• dark/black stools
• metallic taste
• teeth staining (with drops)

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only on medical advice in infants/children. Do not exceed recommended dose; accidental overdose of iron can be dangerous—keep out of reach of children. Use with caution in patients with iron overload (hemochromatosis/hemosiderosis), hemolytic anemia, or repeated blood transfusions. Iron may cause teeth staining—administer towards back of mouth and rinse/brush after dosing. If severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or signs of allergy occur, seek medical help.

Interactions with other medicines

antacids, calcium supplements or dairy (reduced absorption), proton pump inhibitors/H2 blockers (reduced absorption), tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, levothyroxine, bisphosphonates, penicillamine, methyldopa (separate dosing by 2–4 hours)

How to store Vegefer Drops

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep the bottle tightly closed. Do not freeze.
