Composition of Zifol Xt Tablet

Zifol Xt Tablet contains Ferrous ascorbate (equivalent to elemental iron 100 mg) + Folic acid 1.5 mg. It belongs to the Iron preparation (ferrous ascorbate) + Vitamin (folic acid) class of medicines.

How Zifol Xt Tablet works

Ferrous ascorbate replenishes body iron stores required for haemoglobin formation and oxygen transport. Folic acid helps in DNA synthesis and red blood cell production, correcting folate-related megaloblastic anaemia. Together they improve haemoglobin and reduce anaemia symptoms.

How to take Zifol Xt Tablet

Tablet. Take as directed by physician, usually 1 tablet once daily or as advised. Preferably take after food to reduce stomach upset; swallow whole with water. Avoid taking with milk/tea/coffee or antacids close to the dose.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting and stomach pain, and with iron can be dangerous, especially in children. It is unlikely to cause serious harm, because the body passes surplus B vitamins out in the urine. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Zifol Xt Tablet

Most side effects of Zifol Xt are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• metallic taste
• heartburn

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not use in iron overload states (e.g., haemochromatosis/haemosiderosis) or non–iron deficiency anaemia unless prescribed. Use with caution in peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease and in patients receiving repeated blood transfusions. Keep out of reach of children—iron overdose can be fatal. If severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or allergic symptoms occur, seek medical help.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids, calcium supplements, milk, tea/coffee (reduce absorption), tetracyclines, quinolone antibiotics (ciprofloxacin/levofloxacin), levothyroxine, bisphosphonates, penicillamine, methyldopa, levodopa, chloramphenicol; separate administration by 2–4 hours where applicable

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep the container tightly closed.
