Composition of Zucator 100 mg Tablet

Zucator 100 mg Tablet contains Acarbose 100 mg. It belongs to the Alpha-glucosidase inhibitor class of medicines.

Uses of Zucator 100 mg Tablet

  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus (adjunct to diet and exercise) to control post-meal (postprandial) blood glucose; may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines (e.g.
  • metformin
  • sulfonylureas
  • insulin) as prescribed.

Key benefits

  • Reduces post-meal blood sugar spikes
  • Improves overall glycaemic control
  • Can be combined with other antidiabetic therapies
  • Helps when diet/exercise alone are insufficient

How Zucator 100 mg Tablet works

Acarbose is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that delays digestion and absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine. This reduces the rise in blood glucose after meals and helps improve overall glycaemic control.

How to take Zucator 100 mg Tablet

Tablet (oral). Take with the first bite of each main meal, as advised by your doctor. Swallow with water; do not skip meals after taking it. If used with other diabetes medicines, follow the prescribed schedule; monitor blood glucose regularly.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Zucator as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Zucator than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Zucator 100 mg Tablet

Most side effects of Zucator are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

  • Flatulence
  • abdominal pain
  • diarrhea
  • bloating
  • nausea

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in liver disease; periodic liver enzyme monitoring may be advised. Not recommended in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulceration, partial intestinal obstruction, or chronic intestinal diseases associated with digestion/absorption disorders. If hypoglycaemia occurs when combined with sulfonylurea/insulin, treat with glucose (dextrose) rather than table sugar (sucrose). Stop and seek medical help if severe abdominal symptoms or signs of liver injury (jaundice, dark urine) occur.

Interactions with other medicines

Insulin, sulfonylureas (increased risk of hypoglycaemia), digoxin (may reduce digoxin levels), intestinal adsorbents and digestive enzyme preparations (may reduce effect), corticosteroids/thyroid hormones/diuretics (may worsen glucose control)

How to store Zucator 100 mg Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
