How Abdifer Softgels works

Iron supplements replenish body iron stores required for haemoglobin formation and oxygen transport. Correcting iron deficiency improves red blood cell production and reduces symptoms of anaemia such as fatigue and weakness.

How to take Abdifer Softgels

Softgel capsule: take as advised by a doctor. Typically taken once daily with water; may be taken after food to reduce stomach upset. Avoid taking together with tea/coffee, calcium or antacids; keep a 2–4 hour gap.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Abdifer Softgels as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Abdifer Softgels than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Abdifer Softgels

Most side effects of Abdifer Softgels are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• stomach discomfort
• constipation
• diarrhoea
• dark/black stools
• metallic taste
• vomiting

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Abdifer Softgels

Warnings and precautions

Do not use in iron overload states (e.g., haemochromatosis/haemosiderosis) or non–iron-deficiency anaemia unless prescribed. Keep out of reach of children (iron overdose can be fatal). Use with caution in peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, or if you have repeated blood transfusions. If severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or allergic symptoms occur, seek medical advice.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids, calcium supplements, proton pump inhibitors (reduced absorption), tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, levothyroxine, bisphosphonates, penicillamine, methyldopa, levodopa, zinc/magnesium supplements (separate dosing)

How to store Abdifer Softgels

Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep the blister tightly closed and away from children.
