How Amlogard 2.5 works

Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels by inhibiting calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle. This lowers blood pressure and reduces the heart’s workload, improving blood flow and reducing angina symptoms.

How to take Amlogard 2.5

Oral tablet. Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Amlogard 2.5mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.\n

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a severe fall in blood pressure and a dangerously slow or irregular heartbeat. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Amlogard 2.5

Most side effects of Amlogard are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• ankle/foot swelling (edema)
• palpitations
• fatigue
• nausea
• abdominal pain

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in patients with low blood pressure, severe aortic stenosis, heart failure, liver impairment (may need dose adjustment), and elderly patients. May cause dizziness—avoid driving or operating machinery if affected. Seek medical help for severe swelling, fainting, or allergic reactions.

Do not take Amlogard if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with very low blood pressure or with severe narrowing of the aortic valve.

Interactions with other medicines

Other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering), simvastatin (limit simvastatin dose; increased levels), CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir) may increase amlodipine levels, CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin) may reduce effect, grapefruit juice (may increase effect in some patients)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

You have been prescribed Amlogard 2.5mg Tablet to improve your blood pressure and/or to reduce the number and severity of angina attacks. Lowering blood pressure reduces the chance of future heart attack and stroke. Take it at the same time every day to help you remember to take it. A sudden drop in your blood pressure may occur, especially when you first start taking Amlogard 2.5mg Tablet. To lower the chance of feeling dizzy or passing out, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. It can cause ankle or foot swelling. To reduce the swelling, raise your legs while you are sitting down. Talk to your doctor if it does not go away. It may cause dizziness. Do not drive or perform any activity that requires mental focus until you know how Amlogard 2.5mg Tablet affects you. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.
