How Apixabid 2.5 mg Tablet works

Apixaban is an oral anticoagulant that selectively inhibits factor Xa. This reduces thrombin generation and blood clot formation, helping prevent and treat harmful clots.

How to take Apixabid 2.5 mg Tablet

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually twice daily. Can be taken with or without food; swallow with water at the same times each day. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice; if a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered on the same day and continue the regular schedule (do not double the dose).

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause serious and difficult-to-control bleeding. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Apixabid are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Risk of serious bleeding; seek urgent care for unusual bleeding, black stools, blood in urine, severe headache, or weakness. Do not stop apixaban abruptly due to increased risk of stroke/clotting. Use caution in kidney or liver impairment, elderly, low body weight, and with a history of bleeding. Inform doctor before surgery/dental procedures; may need temporary discontinuation. Not recommended in patients with active pathological bleeding; caution with spinal/epidural anesthesia (risk of spinal hematoma).

Do not take Apixabid if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with active bleeding, a bleeding disorder, or a recent bleed into the brain.

Interactions with other medicines

Strong CYP3A4 and P-gp inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, clarithromycin) may increase bleeding risk; strong CYP3A4/P-gp inducers (rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, St John’s wort) may reduce efficacy; other anticoagulants and antiplatelets (warfarin, heparin, rivaroxaban, aspirin, clopidogrel), NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) increase bleeding risk; SSRIs/SNRIs may increase bleeding risk

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), in original strip, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Apixabid 2.5 mg Tablet

Carry a card or note saying which blood thinner you take. Take it at the same time every day; a missed dose leaves you less protected. Use paracetamol rather than an anti-inflammatory for ordinary aches, unless your doctor says otherwise.
