Atekind-50 contains Atenolol (50mg). It belongs to the Beta-blocker (beta-1 selective) class of medicines.

How Atekind-50 works

Atenolol is a selective beta-1 adrenergic blocker. It reduces heart rate and the force of contraction, lowering cardiac output and blood pressure. It also decreases myocardial oxygen demand, helping prevent angina.

How to take Atekind-50

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice; if a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless it is close to the next dose.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Atekind 50mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a dangerously slow heartbeat, a severe fall in blood pressure, wheezing and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Atekind-50

Most side effects of Atekind-50 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Bradycardia (slow pulse)

• dizziness
• cold hands/feet
• nausea
• diarrhea
• sleep disturbances
• low blood pressure

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in asthma/COPD (may worsen bronchospasm), diabetes (can mask symptoms of hypoglycaemia), peripheral vascular disease, thyroid disorders, and in patients with slow heart rate, heart block, or heart failure unless stabilized. Do not stop abruptly (risk of rebound hypertension/angina). Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney impairment. Seek medical help for wheezing, severe dizziness/fainting, very slow pulse, or swelling/shortness of breath.

Do not take Atekind-50 if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with a very slow heart rate, certain heart block disorders, or uncontrolled heart failure. Generally avoided in severe asthma.

Interactions with other medicines

Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), verapamil/diltiazem (risk of severe bradycardia/heart block), digoxin (bradycardia), amiodarone/antiarrhythmics (conduction disturbances), clonidine (rebound hypertension if stopped abruptly; taper carefully), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masks hypoglycaemia), NSAIDs like ibuprofen/diclofenac (may reduce BP-lowering effect), anaesthetic agents (enhanced hypotension/bradycardia)

How to store Atekind-50

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Atekind-50

It may cause dizziness. If this happens to you, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. It can hide symptoms of low blood sugar if you are diabetic. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly. Do not stop taking Atekind 50mg Tablet suddenly as it can cause your blood pressure to rise suddenly, thereby increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
