Avas 5 Tablet contains Atorvastatin (5mg). It belongs to the Statin (HMG‑CoA reductase inhibitor) class of medicines.

How Avas 5 Tablet works

How to take Avas 5 Tablet

Take as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Continue diet and exercise advice; do not stop without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely to cause immediate harm but may increase the risk of muscle and liver injury. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Avas 5 Tablet

Most side effects of Avas are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Not recommended in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Use with caution in liver disease, heavy alcohol use, hypothyroidism, kidney problems, or history of muscle disorders. Seek urgent care for unexplained muscle pain/weakness, fever, or dark urine (risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis). Monitor liver function as advised.

Do not take Avas if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Must not be used in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Not for people with active liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Macrolide antibiotics (clarithromycin, erythromycin), azole antifungals (itraconazole, ketoconazole), HIV/HCV protease inhibitors, cyclosporine, gemfibrozil/other fibrates, niacin, colchicine, warfarin (monitor INR), amiodarone, verapamil/diltiazem, grapefruit juice (may increase levels)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
