How Bisbeta 1.25 works

Bisoprolol is a cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic blocker. It reduces heart rate and force of contraction, lowering blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand and helping control angina and heart failure symptoms.

How to take Bisbeta 1.25

Oral tablet; take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time. Can be taken with or without food. Do not stop suddenly; dose tapering may be needed.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a dangerously slow heartbeat, a severe fall in blood pressure, wheezing and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Bisbeta are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Prescription medicine. Use with caution in asthma/COPD, diabetes (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), peripheral vascular disease, thyroid disorders, kidney or liver impairment, and in the elderly. Contraindicated in severe bradycardia, cardiogenic shock, uncompensated heart failure, severe hypotension, and certain heart conduction disorders unless advised by a doctor. Do not stop abruptly as it may worsen angina or cause rebound hypertension.

Do not take Bisbeta if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with a very slow heart rate, certain heart block disorders, or uncontrolled heart failure. Generally avoided in severe asthma.

Interactions with other medicines

Verapamil, diltiazem, amiodarone, digoxin (increased risk of bradycardia/heart block), clonidine (rebound hypertension on withdrawal), other antihypertensives/diuretics (additive BP lowering), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masks hypoglycaemia), NSAIDs (may reduce antihypertensive effect), beta-agonist bronchodilators (reduced effect), alcohol (additive dizziness)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
