Composition of Livogen XT Tablet

Livogen XT Tablet contains Ferrous ascorbate (equivalent to elemental iron 100 mg) + Folic acid 1.5 mg + Zinc sulfate monohydrate (equivalent to elemental zinc 22.5 mg). It belongs to the Iron preparation + Folic acid (vitamin B9) + Zinc supplement class of medicines.

How Livogen XT Tablet works

Ferrous ascorbate replenishes iron stores needed to make haemoglobin and red blood cells. Folic acid supports DNA synthesis and red blood cell formation, helping correct megaloblastic changes. Zinc supports erythropoiesis and immune function and helps recovery from nutritional deficiencies.

How to take Livogen XT Tablet

Tablet. Take as directed by a doctor, usually 1 tablet once daily after food; swallow whole with water. Avoid taking with milk, tea/coffee, calcium or antacids close to the dose; keep a 2-hour gap.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting and stomach pain, and with iron can be dangerous, especially in children. It is unlikely to cause serious harm, because the body passes surplus B vitamins out in the urine. It can cause vomiting, stomach pain and, with some minerals, damage over the longer term. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Livogen XT Tablet

Most side effects of Livogen XT are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• vomiting
• dark/black stools
• metallic taste

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not use in iron overload states (e.g., haemochromatosis/haemosiderosis) or non–iron deficiency anaemia unless prescribed. Use with caution in peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and patients with repeated blood transfusions. Iron overdose can be dangerous—keep out of reach of children. If severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or allergic reactions occur, seek medical help.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids, calcium supplements, milk, tea/coffee (reduce iron absorption), tetracyclines, quinolones (ciprofloxacin/levofloxacin), levothyroxine, bisphosphonates, penicillamine, methyldopa, levodopa, chloramphenicol; separate administration by 2-4 hours as advised

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep container tightly closed.

Take it with food unless the pack says otherwise. Have deficiencies confirmed and rechecked by blood test rather than supplementing indefinitely. A supplement corrects a deficiency; it is not a general energy tonic. If you are on it for nerve symptoms, keep your review appointment so the underlying cause is looked for. Take it with food to reduce nausea. A varied diet remains the best source of these nutrients.
