Glyceryl trinitrate (Nitroglycerin) 5 mg tablet
Prevention and treatment of angina pectoris (chest pain due to coronary artery disease); may be used for acute relief of angina as advised by a doctor
Glyceryl trinitrate is a nitrate vasodilator that relaxes blood vessels. It mainly dilates veins (reducing preload) and also dilates coronary arteries, improving blood flow to the heart and reducing the heart’s oxygen demand, thereby relieving angina.
Use exactly as prescribed. For angina relief, tablets are commonly used sublingually (kept under the tongue) and allowed to dissolve; do not chew or swallow unless your doctor advises oral use. Sit/lie down before taking to reduce dizziness; take at the first sign of chest pain. Follow prescribed dosing interval to avoid nitrate tolerance.

Can cause sudden drop in blood pressure and fainting—use caution when standing up, especially in elderly. Severe headache is common. Do not use with PDE-5 inhibitors (sildenafil/tadalafil/vardenafil/avanafil) due to risk of life-threatening hypotension. Use with caution in hypotension, dehydration, severe anemia, increased intracranial pressure, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, recent heart attack, or severe aortic stenosis. Seek emergency care if chest pain persists after prescribed doses.
