How S-Amcard 2.5 works

Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. It relaxes and widens blood vessels by inhibiting calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing cardiac workload to relieve angina.

How to take S-Amcard 2.5

Take by mouth as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food; swallow with water. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a severe fall in blood pressure and a dangerously slow or irregular heartbeat. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of S-Amcard 2.5

Most side effects of S-Amcard are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• dizziness

• flushing
• palpitations
• fatigue
• nausea
• abdominal pain

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

May cause dizziness—use caution while driving or operating machinery. Use with caution in severe hypotension, aortic stenosis, heart failure, and liver impairment (dose adjustment may be needed). Do not discontinue without consulting a doctor. Seek medical help for severe swelling, chest pain worsening, fainting, or allergic reactions.

Do not take S-Amcard if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with very low blood pressure or with severe narrowing of the aortic valve.

Interactions with other medicines

Other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering), simvastatin (limit simvastatin dose; increased levels), strong CYP3A4 inhibitors like ketoconazole/itraconazole/clarithromycin/ritonavir (may increase amlodipine levels), CYP3A4 inducers like rifampicin/phenytoin/carbamazepine (may reduce effect), grapefruit juice (may increase levels in some patients)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
