Composition of Tonact Plus

Tonact Plus contains Atorvastatin + Vitamin B3. It belongs to the Statin / lipid modifier and B-complex vitamin class of medicines.

Uses of Tonact Plus

  • High cholesterol
  • Prevention of heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Vitamin b deficiency
  • Nerve pain
  • Tingling
  • Anaemia
  • Tiredness due to deficiency

Benefits of Tonact Plus

In High cholesterol
Tonact Plus lowers the 'bad' LDL cholesterol in your blood, slowing the build-up of fatty deposits in your arteries. The benefit builds over months and years rather than being something you feel.
In Prevention of heart attack and stroke
Tonact Plus stabilises the fatty plaques already lining your arteries so they are less likely to rupture and block a vessel. That is what lowers the chance of a heart attack or stroke.
In Vitamin B deficiency
Tonact Plus restores the B vitamins your body needs to turn food into energy and to keep nerves and blood cells healthy, correcting the deficiency behind symptoms such as tiredness, sore tongue and pins and needles.
In Nerve pain and tingling
Tonact Plus supplies the vitamins nerves need to repair their protective covering, which over weeks can ease the burning, tingling and numbness of nerve damage.
In Anaemia
Tonact Plus gives the bone marrow the B12 and folate it needs to make healthy red blood cells, correcting the anaemia and the tiredness and breathlessness that come with it.
In Tiredness due to deficiency
Tonact Plus corrects a lack of B vitamins, which is a common and easily missed reason for feeling drained. Energy returns as the stores are rebuilt.

How Tonact Plus works

This medicine combines 2 active ingredients: Atorvastatin and Vitamin b. Atorvastatin lowers the amount of bad cholesterol your liver makes and helps clear it from the blood, which slows the furring of your arteries. Vitamin b replaces a B vitamin your body needs to make red blood cells, to keep nerves healthy and to release energy from food.

How to take Tonact Plus

Use this medicine as your doctor has directed. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely to cause immediate harm but may increase the risk of muscle and liver injury. It is unlikely to cause serious harm, because the body passes surplus B vitamins out in the urine. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Tonact Plus

Most side effects of Tonact Plus are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:

  • Muscle aches
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Constipation or loose motions
  • Raised liver enzymes
  • Stomach upset
  • Harmless bright yellow urine
  • Loose motions

Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Breast feedingUNSAFE
Not recommended while breastfeeding.

Not expected to affect your ability to drive.

Warnings and precautions

Report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness — especially with fever or dark urine — without waiting for your next appointment. Your doctor will check your liver with a blood test before starting and from time to time afterwards. Cholesterol medicines work silently; you will not feel their benefit, and that is not a reason to stop. Tell your doctor if you develop new or worsening diabetes symptoms. Tingling, numbness or burning in the hands and feet should be assessed by a doctor rather than self-treated — a supplement does not address the cause. Folic acid can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency while nerve damage continues, so B12 should be checked before taking folic acid long term. Bright yellow urine after a B-complex dose is expected and harmless.

Do not take Tonact Plus if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Must not be used in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Not for people with active liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Grapefruit juice raises the level of some statins — avoid it. Certain antibiotics, antifungals and fibrates increase the risk of muscle damage when combined. Long-term metformin, acid-reducing medicines and some anti-epileptics lower B12 or folate levels. Tell your doctor if you take levodopa, as vitamin B6 can reduce its effect.

How to store Tonact Plus

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Quick tips for Tonact Plus

  • Continue your diet, exercise and, above all, stopping smoking.
  • The medicine adds to these, not replaces them.
  • Get your lipid profile repeated as your doctor advises.
  • A supplement corrects a deficiency; it is not a general energy tonic.
  • If you are on it for nerve symptoms, keep your review appointment so the underlying cause is looked for.

People taking Tonact Plus are often asked to check these from time to time. Your doctor decides which and how often.
