Composition of Ursodil SR Tablet

Ursodil SR Tablet contains Ursodeoxycholic Acid (500mg). It belongs to the Bile acid (ursodeoxycholic acid) class of medicines.

How Ursodil SR Tablet works

Ursodeoxycholic acid is a hydrophilic bile acid that reduces cholesterol saturation of bile by decreasing hepatic cholesterol secretion and intestinal absorption. It also improves bile flow and protects liver cells from toxic bile acids in cholestatic conditions.

How to take Ursodil SR Tablet

Tablet (sustained release): take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily after food or with meals; swallow whole with water—do not crush, chew, or break. Duration is often long-term (months); follow-up with ultrasound/liver function tests as advised.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Ursodil -SR Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Ursodil SR than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Most side effects of Ursodil SR are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Interactions with other medicines

Bile acid sequestrants (cholestyramine/colestipol), aluminium-based antacids (reduce absorption), cyclosporine (levels may change), estrogens/oral contraceptives and clofibrate (may increase gallstone risk), some lipid-lowering agents; separate cholestyramine/antacids by 2-4 hours

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Take Ursodil -SR Tablet after a meal with a glass of milk or water to help improve its absorption and reduce stomach upset. Take Ursodil -SR Tablet regularly at the same time each day, as it works gradually and may take time to show beneficial results. Follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly, and avoid alcohol while taking Ursodil -SR Tablet. Avoid heavy or oily meals, as high-fat foods may worsen gallbladder or liver-related symptoms. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Drink plenty of fluids, including oral rehydration solution (ORS), and inform your doctor if it persists or if you notice blood in your stools. Your doctor may monitor liver function tests and bilirubin levels regularly, especially during the first few months of the treatment. Seek medical advice promptly if you develop worsening jaundice, severe itching, dark urine, pale stools, persistent abdominal pain, or fever. Do not stop taking Ursodil -SR Tablet without consulting your doctor, as liver conditions often require monitored and continuous therapy. Inform your doctor about all other medicines, herbal products, or supplements you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
