How Warf 1 Tablet works

Warf 1 Tablet is an anticoagulant. It works by preventing the formation of harmful blood clots. Although it does not dissolve the existing blood clots, it prevents them from growing larger and causing blockages in the blood vessels.

How to take Warf 1 Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Warf 1 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.Avoid Warf 1 Tablet with Vitamin K rich food such as spinach, collards, broccoli, spring onions, cucumber and dried basil.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause serious and difficult-to-control bleeding. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

Seek urgent care for black or tarry stools, blood in the vomit or urine, a severe headache, or bleeding that will not stop. Tell every doctor and dentist treating you that you are on a blood thinner, well before any procedure. Never stop this medicine on your own before surgery or dental work — stopping it carries its own risk, and the decision is your doctor's. Avoid contact sports and take care with razors and sharp tools. Your INR blood test decides the dose. Have it done as often as your doctor says, and never change the dose yourself on the basis of how you feel. Keep your intake of green leafy vegetables steady rather than avoiding them — it is a sudden change that upsets the INR, not the vegetables themselves. Tell your doctor before starting or stopping ANY medicine, including over-the-counter painkillers and herbal products.

Do not take Warf if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with active bleeding, a bleeding disorder, or a recent bleed into the brain.

Interactions with other medicines

Anti-inflammatory painkillers, including over-the-counter ones, sharply raise the bleeding risk. Combining two blood thinners multiplies the risk — never add one yourself. Tell your doctor about all herbal products; several affect clotting.

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

You have been prescribed Warf 1 Tablet to help prevent blood clots. For best results, take it at the same time every day. Your doctor may get regular blood tests done to make sure Warf 1 Tablet is working properly. Warf 1 Tablet increases your risk of bleeding. Be careful while shaving, cutting fingernails or toenails, using sharp objects or engaging in contact sports (e.g. football, wrestling). Notify your doctor if you see blood in your vomit, urine or stool (black, tarry stools or bright red blood). Avoid making sudden major changes to your diet during treatment with this medicine. If you are going to have a surgery or dental treatment, you may be asked to stop taking Warf 1 Tablet temporarily. Do not consume alcohol while taking Warf 1 Tablet as this may increase its side effects. Do not discontinue use without consulting your doctor as this may increase your chances of having another heart attack or stroke.
