If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Alex Syrup, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Alex than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Most side effects of Alex are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Exact precautions depend on the ingredients. Use with caution in children (dose must be age/weight appropriate), asthma/COPD, liver disease, kidney disease, and in patients taking other cold/cough medicines. May cause drowsiness—avoid driving/operating machinery if affected. Consult a doctor if cough persists >3–5 days, is recurrent, or is accompanied by fever, wheezing, breathlessness, or thick/green/bloody sputum.

Interactions with other medicines

May interact with alcohol and other CNS depressants (increased drowsiness), MAO inhibitors/antidepressants (for some antitussives/antihistamines), sedatives, antihistamines, and other cough/cold combination products (duplicate therapy).

How to store Alex Drops

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Take Alex Syrup only for the duration advised by your doctor, usually until symptoms improve. Drink plenty of fluids to soothe throat irritation and help relieve symptoms, but Alex Syrup should not be used for cough with mucus. Alex Syrup may cause drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you. Avoid alcohol or other sedative medicines while taking Alex Syrup, as they may increase sleepiness. Dry mouth may occur; staying hydrated and including fiber in your diet may help. Avoid combining Alex Syrup with other cough or cold medicines unless advised by your doctor. Use with caution if you have high blood pressure or heart disease. Stop and consult your doctor if you experience palpitations or severe headache. Stop taking Alex Syrup and seek medical help if you develop rash, facial swelling, or difficulty breathing. Consult your doctor if cough lasts more than one week, keeps recurring, or is accompanied by fever, rash, or persistent headache. Do not take Alex Syrup with antidepressants or similar medicines without consulting your doctor, as it may cause serious side effects.
